What is Dynamic FM?

Dynamic FM is the latest wireless technology platform. The Phonak exclusive innovation improves speech understanding in noise more than any other technology in the industry.

How does Dynamic FM work?

Dynamic FM includes many impressive features. At its heart is the Dynamic Speech Extractor which uses a transmitter microphone to continuously assess noise in between speech pauses. Once surrounding noise reaches a certain level, the Dynamic FM transmitter sends a digital wireless command to increase the gain of the Dynamic FM receiver. The noisier it gets, the more additional gain is provided. This leads to an incredibly clear sound, even in the noisiest environments; the FM signal keeps its high quality, remaining audible and very clean.

How is Dynamic FM different from other FM systems?

No other manufacturer of FM systems offers anything that comes close to Dynamic FM. All other FM systems on the market are based on traditional, static FM technology.

Why is Dynamic FM so important for children?

Children rely on different signal-to-noise ratios than adults. A clean signal gives them a better opportunity to develop speech and to understand what is being said in class – which in turn leads to better academic performance. There is abundant scientific and clinical evidence that proves these benefits.

Can Dynamic FM be used with infants?

Dynamic FM is widely used for infants and children with hearing loss. Pediatric Audiologists around the world routinely introduce FM to infants as soon as they start to crawl or take first steps and the communication distance between parents and children increases. Families use Dynamic FM when driving in the car (with the child in the back seat), at meal times, in shopping centers, when watching TV, and of course at daycare centers and schools.

Can Dynamic FM be beneficial for all degrees of hearing loss?

Yes. The purpose of any hearing instrument is hearing loss compensation. The Dynamic FM system delivers a very clean signal to the corresponding hearing instrument – irrespective of the amount of amplification. iSense, a Dynamic FM receiver, is also available for children with normal or near normal hearing who experience difficulties understanding speech in noise; e.g. children with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), Unilateral Hearing Loss and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

What results can I expect with Dynamic FM?

Studies involving users of hearing instruments and cochlear implants have shown that, compared to traditional FM, Dynamic FM substantially improves speech understanding in noise.

Can I verify Dynamic FM?

Yes. You can verify any Dynamic FM system in a test box by following the Phonak Dynamic FM Offset Protocol iPOP. When doing so, make sure the dynamic transmitter is set to verification mode within FM SuccessWare.
