RogerDirect and Roger installation

Q: What is RogerDirect?

A: RogerDirect is a feature of the Phonak Marvel hearing aid. RogerDirect is an industry-first from Phonak that allows Roger microphones to stream directly to the hearing aids.  After a simple installation of the Roger receiver, clients benefit from the proven performance of Roger, in noise and over distance, without attaching an external receiver.

Q: What is Roger installation?

A:  Roger installation is the process to install the Roger receiver into any Marvel hearing aid.  

Q: How can a Roger receiver be installed into a Marvel hearing aid?

A:  Installation of a Roger receiver into a Marvel hearing aid can be done using either:  

- the Roger X and the Roger Installer or
- one of the Roger iN microphones

The Roger X  must has serial number 1744xxxx or greater to be compatible and installed into Marvel hearing aid

Q: What is Roger™ technology?

A: Roger technology provides an improved speech understanding in noise and over distance. Voice is captured with a high signal-to-noise ratio by Roger microphones and rendered in the hearing aid with a gain that is dynamically adapted to the surrounding noise

Q: Does RogerDirect in Phonak Marvel hearing aid have a serial number?

A: No. 

RogerDirect is a Marvel hearing aid feature. Serial number are available only  on hardware (e.g. Roger X), which are needed to install Roger receiver  in Phonak Marvel hearing aids.

Q: What is Roger X?

A:  Roger X is a universal Roger receiver that can be attached to any hearing aid, cochlear implant speech processor or BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) featuring a Direct Audio Input (DAI) or 3-Pin Euro plug.  Roger X can also be used to wirelessly install a Roger receiver into a Marvel hearing aid via the Roger Installer.

Q: How do I know if a Roger X can directly install Roger receiver inside a Phonak Marvel hearing aid?

A:  Any Roger X with a serial number starting with the first four digits 1744 or higher can be used to install Roger receiver  into Phonak Marvel hearing aid.

As a visual indicator Roger X color is champagne. 

Q: Who can install Roger in Phonak Marvel hearing aids?

A: HCP (Hearing Care Professional) , School Audiologist, School Personnel

Q: Can an installed Roger receiver in Phonak Marvel hearing aid be uninstalled and restore into an empty Roger X?

A: Yes.

Q: Can a Roger X with Roger receiver be used with another hearing instrument via DAI (digital Audio Interface)?

A: Yes.

Q: What is an empty Roger X?

A: An empty Roger X means Roger receiver has been installed into a Phonak Marvel hearing aid and no longer contains Roger inside.

Q: Can I use an empty Roger X via an audio shoe or a 3-pin Euro plug (DAI)?

A: No. 

An empty Roger X cannot receive a Roger signal.

Q: How to know if a Roger X is empty or full?

A:  The HCP (Hearing Care Professional) , School Audiologist, School Personnel will use the Roger Installer. 

a)  Full: The indicator light on the top of  the Roger Installer will have GREEN LIGHT indicating Roger receiver is inside the Roger X

b) Empty: The indicator light on the top of the Roger Installer will have not light.

Q: Can one Roger X be used to install Roger in more than one Marvel hearing aids at a time?

A: No.  

Once installed in one Phonak Marvel hearing aid, the Roger X is empty. 

Q: The Phonak Marvel hearing aid with Roger installed via Roger Installer is lost or damaged. What should I do?

A: Local Phonak Loss and Damage for Phonak devices is different from countries to countries.Please refer to Phonak Loss and Damage section in Phonak Price & Policy for terms , cost and coverage details. 

Generally speaking  the empty Roger X receiver and broken hearing aid will be returned with the proper forms to Phonak. A new or repared Marvel hearing aid will be returned along with a new Roger X receiver under the Phonak Loss and Damage. 

Q: Can I use the Phonak Remote App to check if Roger is installed in my Marvel hearing aids?

A: Yes. 

Make sure the app is connected to the Marvel hearing aids. 

1. Select 'MyPrograms' in the list.

2. Select  'MyRoger' in the list

3. Roger installation status for left and right  Marvel hearing aids will be displayed.

Q: I have a trial with Phonak Marvel hearing aids, can Roger receiver be installed into the trial device?

A: Yes.

Q: what will happen if The HCP (Hearing Care Professional) , School Audiologist, School Personnel try y to install Roger receiver in Marvel hearing aid when Roger receiver has already been installed?

A: Red LED on Roger Installer will be displayed.

Q: What are Roger iN microphones?

A: Roger iN microphones are dedicated Roger microphones that have the capability to install two Roger receivers into a pair of Marvel hearing aids.

Q: Can Roger iN microphone install two Roger receivers in two Marvel hearing aids?

A: Yes.

Q: Is it possible to listen to an audio device and the microphone in parallel?Q: How I know if it is a Roger microphone iN?

A: If ‘IN’ extension  is written at the end of the product name, it is a Roger microphone iN.  For example Roger Select iN. 

Q: Can Roger receiver installed in Marvel hearing aids be uninstalled into a Roger iN microphone?

A: Yes.

Roger iN microphone must have at least one empty slot.

Q: How does the HCP know if the Roger iN microphone has an empty slot?

A: The HCP will use a Phonak tool to check the indicator light status: one RED indicator means at least 1 empty slot. 

Q: Which option of Roger receiver will be installed when using Roger iN microphone?

A: Roger receiver  (03) option will be installed by Roger iN microphone.

Q: Is it possible to install both, Roger receiver (02) and (03) options into the same Phonak Marvel hearing aids?

A: Yes.

Q: Can a Roger receiver 02 option be uninstalled into an empty Roger iN microphone?

A: No.

Roger receiver 02 option  functionality can only be installed into a Roger X 02 option.

Q: Can a Roger receiver (03) option be uninstalled into an empty Roger X 02 option?

A: No.

Roger receiver 03 option  functionality can only be installed into a Roger X 03 option.
